PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Sophomore setter Sara Sheehan (West Chester, Pa.) had 150 assists and 11 service aces last week covering four matches. For her brilliant play, Sheehan was named to the Delaware State Invitational All-Tournament team and took home Tournament MVP honors.
Sophomore Jeanette Toney (Brooklyn, N.Y.) continued her dominance over oppenents tallying 61 kills and 20 toal blocks in four matches. She earned Delaware State Invitational All-Tournament honors. Toney has now made every All-Tournament team that Providence has played in this season.
The Providence College volleyball team went 4-0 last week pushing their record to 14-13. With the four wins, the Friars are now riding a seven-game winning streak which is the longest in over 10 years. On October 18, the Friars swept Quinnipiac, 3-0. PC defeated Delaware State, 3-1 on October 20, Winston-Salem, 3-0 and NJIT, 3-1 on October 21. With the three wins over the weekend, the Friars won the Delaware State Invitational with a perfect 3-0 record.
SCOUTING HARTFORD (7-14): The Hawks will look to break a nine game losing streak tonight as they visit Mullaney Gymnasium for a rematch with Providence. Hartford won the first meeting of the season in the opening game for the Friars with a 3-0 sweep. The Hawks won the games 30-27, 30-27, 36-34. This past weekend, the Hawks were swept by New Hampshire and Binghamton. Junior Jennifer Monroy (Rahway, N.J.) is leading the team in kills with 285. Junior setter Sarah Rasor (Tampa, Fla.) has 663 setting assists for the season. As a team, the Hawks are hitting just .115 but are averaging over 12 kills per game.
Providence will host Central Connecticut on Wednesday, November 1 at 7:00 p.m. The game will be covered by Cox Sports Television.
