Volleyball Wins Home Opener 3-2 Over Holy Cross

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College volleyball team won their home opener this evening, September 13, with a 3-2 victory over Holy Cross. This marks the second straight win over the Crusaders this season after PC defeated Holy Cross 3-1 on September 2. The Friars improve to 3-5 on the season while the Crusaders drop to 1-7. PC defeated Holy Cross in just under two hours by the scores of 19-30, 30-22, 30-21, 24-30, and 15-12.

Sophomore Jeanette Toney (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led the Friars with a game-high 22 kills and two service aces. She now has a team high 90 kills on the season. Sophomore Nonie Ferguson (Davie, Fla.) and junior Sarah Fleming (Saint Paul, Minn.) each added 10 kills in the 3-2 win for Providence. Sophomore setter Sara Sheehan (West Chester, Pa.) had a game-high 48 assists.

Leading the way for Holy Cross was Christine Strawson (Torrington, Conn.) who had 14 kills. Freshman Samantha Surface (Fresno, Calif.) and junior Meagan Merinder (Andover, Mass.) added 12 and 10 kills repectively.

Providence College will host the Third Annual Friar Invitational this weekend, September 15-16. PC will play Coppin State on Friday, September 15, and Colgate and Chicago State on Saturday, September 16.
