HARTFORD, Conn. - The Providence College volleyball team posted its first victory of the season by defeating Holy Cross, 3-0, on Saturday, September 2 in the second day of the Hartford Invitational. The Friars won by game scores of 30-27, 22-30, 30-27 and 30-24.

Sophomores Aida Cadres (Los Angeles, Calif.) and Jeanette Toney (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led the way for PC with 11 kills each, while freshman Jess Storer (Wantagh, N.Y.) had 10 kills. Sophomore Sara Sheehan (West Chester, Pa.) finished with a match-high 42 assists to pace the Friars who improved to 1-1.

Holy Cross fell to 0-2 despite Christine Strawson's match-high 24 kills. Strawson also had 14 digs.

The match against Holy Cross was the first of two matches on the day for the Friars. PC also will play Sacred Heart later this afternoon at 4:00 p.m.
