PROVIDENCE, R.I. - University of Maine goalie Ben Bishop stopped all 40 shots he faced as the fourth-ranked Black Bears defeated the Providence College men's hockey team, 2-0, Saturday night at Schneider Arena. With the win, the Black Bears ended a three-game losing streak and improved to 15-6-2 overall and 8-6-1 in Hockey East. PC fell to 6-16-1 overall and 5-10-1 in the league as its two-game winning streak came to an end.

The Black Bears opened the scoring at 15:27 of the second period when Josh Soares collected his 14th goal of the season. Keith Johnson controlled a loose puck behind the PC net and set up Soares from a one timer from in close. The goal marked Maine's first in the last 159:13. Just under two minutes later, Maine increased its lead to 2-0 when Billy Ryan scored from in close at 17:15. Ryan rifled a slap shot that glanced off the left post and trickled into the net after hitting Tyler Sims' skate.

Sims finished with 28 saves, while Bishop recorded his second shutout of the season versus the Friars in three meetings.
