Providence, R.I. - The Providence College women's volleyball team defeated the Cougars of Chicago State, 3-0, on Friday, October 5 by scores of 30-18, 30-22 and 30-23. The Friars earned their fourth consecutive win. With the win, Providence equals their total from 2006 and improves to 14-7 on the season.
Junior Elizabeth Flynn (Bellerose, N.Y.) led all players with a match-high 16 kills on 25 attempts for a .600 hitting percentage while junior Jeanette Toney (Brooklyn, N.Y.) recorded 13 kills for the second consecutive match. Junior libero Kelly Krahenbuhl (Larkspur, Colo.) had an impressive night on the defensive side for the Friars. She finished with a season-high 22 digs. Senior Sarah Fleming (St. Paul, Minn.) recorded seven kills on the night putting her only seven kills from surpassing last season's total. This victory marked the third straight match that Providence has swept its opponent.
For Chicago State, sophomore Jessica Khouri finished with a double-double, recording 10 kills and 11 digs. Also performing well for the Cougars was freshman setter Hanya Minta who finished the match with a team-high 29 assists and 14 digs.
The Friars return to action with a road game on Saturday, October 13, at URI. The game begins at 4:00 p.m. and is being covered by COX Sports Television.
