Four Friar Volleyball Players Named To Independent All-Academic Team

Four Providence College volleyball players have been named to the 2007 Division I Independent All-Academic team according to a recent release. Senior Kasey Adinolfi (Branford, Conn.), senior Sarah Fleming (Saint Paul, Minn.), junior Elizabeth Flynn (Bellerose, N.Y.) and sophomore Abby Majewski (Sunderland, Mass.) were named to the team.

Adinolfi has been named to the All-Academic team for the third consecutive season and has a 3.45 GPA as a biology major. A senior, co-captain, Adinolfi has had a stellar defensive season anchoring the Friar back line. She has 226 digs on the season to go along with 23 service aces.

Fleming has a 3.22 GPA as a Sociology major. She is have a career-year as she leads the Friar offensive attack with 352 kills. Sarah is third on the team with 62 blocks and has 40 assists, 209 digs, and 25 aces.

Flynn has 3.73 GPA as a history major. Elizabeth ranks in the top 100 nationally with a .369 hitting percentage which is best on the team. She is in a close second just three kills behind Fleming with 349 on the season. Flynn ranks second on the team with 83 total blocks.

Majewski is undeclared and carries a GPA of 3.20. Abby is having a solid season on and off the court as she has tallied 116 kills, 99 digs and 22 blocks in 75 games this season.

All-Academic Criteria: The student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA. No athlete is eligible until sophomore athletic and academic standing has been reached. In the cases of transfers, graduate students and junior college graduates, the athlete must have completed one full academic year at the nominating institution to be eligible.

The Friars travel to Central Connecticut State on Wednesday, November 7 for their final regular season match scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m.
