Fairfield, Conn. - The Providence College volleyball team split a pair of games on Sunday, September 23 at the Sacred Heart Invitational. The Friars defeated Saint Francis, 3-0 by the scores of 30-25, 30-22, and 30-18 in the first game but fell 3-0 to Sacred Heart in the night cap by the scores of 30-27, 32-30, and 30-25. Providence is now 9-6 on the season.
In the 3-0 sweep of Saint Francis, Providence was led by junior Elizabeth Flynn (Bellerose, N.Y.) who had a match-high 20 kills and had a hitting percentage of .417. Junior setter Sara Sheehan (West Chester, Pa.) Had a match-high 46 assists. Junior Jeanette Toney (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and senior Sarah Fleming (Saint Paul, Minn.) each added double-figure kills.
In the second match of the day, Providence fell to the Pioneers of Sacred Heart, 3-0. Sheehan had a match-high 32 assists, while Fleming tallied a match-high 14 kills. Flynn had 12 kills and Toney added 10 kills in the loss. Flynn was the lone Friar to be named to the all-tournament team.
