Providence, R.I. - The Providence College volleyball team will face Hartford in Mullaney Gymnasium on Wednesday, October 29 at 7:00 p.m. The Friars come into the match with a record of 13-12, while the Hawks are 5-19. PC fans can watch the match live through the subscription service on Friars.com.
In tonight's match, two of the most durable players in Friar history will begin an ascension into the PC record books. Seniors Jeanette Toney (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Sara Sheehan (West Chester, Pa.) have both played in 421 games in their careers and will move into a tie for fifth place with Jocelyn Cole and Kelly Tooley on the all-time games list in the third game of tonight's match.
Last time out, PC defeated Chicago State, 3-1. For the first time this season, three Friar players recorded double-digit kills in a match. Senior Elizabeth Flynn (Bellerose, N.Y.) led the PC attack with 15 kills, hitting at a blistering .483 clip. Junior Abby Majewski (Sunderland, Mass.) posted 12 kills and contributed four digs and two service aces and hit at an impressive .600 percentage. Senior Jeanette Toney (Brooklyn, N.Y.) was a force at the net. The 5-10 middle blocker registered nine total blocks along with her 11 kills.
Senior Elizabeth Flynn (Bellerose, N.Y.) is putting up record numbers for the Friars this season. The 6-0 middle blocker leads the team with 285 kills on the season and is hitting at an impressive .420 clip. Flynn's hitting percentage currently ranks her eighth in the nation in that category.
After Wednesday's contest, Providence will compete in the NJIT Halloween Classic in Newark, N.J. over the weekend. On Friday, October 31, the Friars square off with host NJIT at 7:00 p.m. On Saturday, PC plays Bryant at 10:00 a.m. and Howard at 2:00 p.m.
