The Providence College volleyball team cruised to a 3-1 victory versus Quinnipiac in the team's second match of the Cougar Invitational on Saturday, October 4. The Friars won the match with game scores of 20-25, 28-26, 25-22 and 25-18. Providence moves to 9-10 with the win, while the Bobcats drop to 3-17.
Senior Jeanette Toney (Brooklyn, N.Y.) continues to provide leadership for the Friar offense. The 5-10 middle blocker recorded a season-high 22 kills and added seven digs and eight blocks. Toney leads the team in blocks with 60 on the year. Another strong performer on the front line was senior Elizabeth Flynn (Bellerose, N.Y.). Flynn registered 19 kills and a .361 hitting percentage.
Setting up the Friar attack was senior Sara Sheehan (West Chester, Pa.). The 5-9 Friar co-captain also posted a season-high with 47 assists and added six digs. Kelly Krahenbuhl contributed 22 digs and a service ace to the Friar defense. The Larkspur, Colo., native extended her streak to seven-straight matches with double-digit digs against Quinnipiac.
Providence will play another match in the Cougar Invitational today, battling the host Chicago State Cougars at 3:00 p.m.
