The Providence College volleyball team (10-13) fell to Central Connecticut State (11-9, 5-0) by the score of 3-1 on Wednesday, October 13 in New Britain, Conn. Sophomore setter Carly Morrison posted nine kills, 28 assists and 10 digs, falling one kill short of her first-career triple-double. The double-double was Morrison's sixth of the season.
Central Connecticut opened the match with 27-25 and 25-22 victories in the first two sets. The Friars responded by taking the third set, 25-23. The Blue Devils closed out the match with a 25-8 victory in the fourth set.
The Providence attack was led by senior outside hitter Abby Majewski (Sunderland, Mass.), posting 11 kills. Sophomore middle blocker Lauren Fletcher (Syracuse, N.Y.) added 10 kills and a solo block.
Freshman defensive specialist Cassie Muzzonigro (Gibsonia, Pa.) led the Friar defense with a match-high 18 digs. In addition to Morrison's 10, defensive specialists junior Sondra Snyder (Norwood, N.J.) and freshman Shelby Spicer (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) also posted 10 digs. It marked the first time this season that four PC student-athletes notched double-digit kill totals in a match.
CCSU won the contest in large part to a 15-to-5 advantage in service aces and a seven-to-three advantage in total blocks. Emily Cochran led the Blue Devils with a match-high 15 kills. Setter Amanda Bayer posted a match-high 38 assists.
The Friars continue their season-ending, four-match road trip with a contest at Hartford on Wednesday, October 21 at 6:00 p.m.
