The first half featured scoring opportunities for both teams as the Friars outshot Seton Hall, 10-5. Providence had its best scoring opportunity in the first half at the 10:22 mark when junior Matt Marcin (Wilmington, Del.) blasted a shot from the right side that hit off the post.
In the second half, Providence goalkeeper Tim Murray (Haverhill, Mass.) kept the game tied at 0-0 when he sprawled to his left to stop a shot from 12 yards out off the foot of Seton Hall's Steven Rose in the 65th minute. However, the Pirates registered the game's first goal at 75:39 when Andrew Welker tallied his team leading seventh goal of the season.
