PROVIDENCE, R.I.- The Providence College women's soccer team (5-5-2, 0-3-1 BIG EAST) hosts BIG EAST foe Villanova on Sunday, October 4 at 1:00 p.m. on Glay Field. The teams have met a combined 19 times with the Friars going 7-10-2 all-time. The last time they met was in 2006 when the teams played to 0-0 tie.
The Friars are coming off a 2-1 double-overtime loss to Georgetown on Friday, October 2. Senior Jill Camburn (Doylestown, Pa.) scored her sixth goal of the season off an assist from fellow senior Katelin Blain (Warwick, N.Y.). However, the Hoyas would score two goals off long throw-ins to defeat the Friars.
Camburn leads the Friars in goals (six), assists (three) and points (15). Second on the team in goals (two), assists (two) and points (six) is sophomore Courtney Collins (North Wales, Pa.).
Thus far in 2009, the Friars have played well and have had plenty of quality scoring opportunities. They hold an edge over opponents in shots, 192-116, shots on goal, 75-55 and corners, 53-47.
VILLANOVA- Villanova (8-2-2, 1-2-1 BIG EAST) enters Sunday's game fifth in the National Division of the BIG EAST. In 2009, the Wildcats hold a slight edge over opponents in shots, 185-174, corners, 58-51 and are even in shots on goal, 80-80.
Leading the Wildcat's offense are Katie Ryan who has eight goals, four assists and 20 points and Heidi Sabatura who has tallied six goals, four assists and 16 points. Erin Byrnes has also tallied five assists.
In goal, Molly Williams has started 11 games for Villanova and has played a total of 1053 minutes for a record of 7-2-2, including two shutouts. Williams has 63 saves on a total of 167 shots faced, a 0.829 save percentage and a 1.11 goals against average.
