PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College volleyball team will complete its 2009 season on Wednesday, November 11 at 7:00 p.m. against Manhattan College in Riverdale, N.Y. The contest is the last of a season-ending, four match road trip for the Friars. PC enters the match with a 10-15 record, while Manhattan is 7-21.
The Friars are coming off a 3-0 loss to intra-state rival Rhode Island on Tuesday, October 27 in Kingston, R.I. Senior outside hitter Abby Majewski (Sunderland, Mass.) led Providence with six kills and hit at an impressive .385 mark against the Rams. Majewski will be playing her final collegiate match Wednesday against the Lady Jaspers.
PC will look to sophomore Lauren Fletcher (Syracuse, N.Y.) to lead the team at the net in Wednesday's contest. The 6-1 middle blocker ranks first on the Friars with 275 kills and 85 total blocks on the year. Amongst Independent Volleyball student-athletes, Fletcher places first in solo blocks (25), third in hitting percentage (.290), third in blocks per set (0.91) and fifth in kills per set (2.96).
Scouting Manhattan (7-21, 3-13)
The Jaspers enter the match with a 7-21 record, including a 3-13 mark in MAAC action. Last time out, the Lady Jaspers were defeated by Loyola (Md.), 3-2. Diane Strutner posted 14 kills in the match and ranks first on Manhattan with 288 kills and 371 digs in 2009. Laura Bellotti paces the Lady Jaspers with 488 assists on the year.
