PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College Friars travel to New York on Sunday, September 14 to take on the Stony Brook Seawolves at 2:00 p.m. The two teams have met two previous times, the last being in 2008 when the Friars defeated the Seaswolves, 2-0, in Providence. The other meeting was in 2006, at Stony Brook, when they tied, 0-0.
The Friars are 3-2-1 in 2009 with victories against St. Joseph's, UMass and Quinnipiac. The squad has played well in 2009, outshooting their opponents 92-41 and holding the advantage on corner kicks 31-22.
Leading the way for the Friars is senior Jill Camburn (Doylestown, Pa.) who has nine points on three goals and three assists. She has taken a total of 22 shots on the season, 10 coming against their last opponent, Siena.
The backline for the Friars has been solid, only giving up an average of just over 6.8 shots and 0.78 goals a game. Ashley Lewis (Freehold, N.J.) has started five games and recorded two shutouts with a 0.42 goals against average.
Stony Brook- The Seawolves entered the 2009 season with high expectations after one of the programs best seasons in 2008 where the team finished second in the America East Conference in the regular season and advanced to the title game for the first time since 2002. Stony Brook was picked to finish second in its conference preseason poll after graduating only four players and bringing in a top recruiting class.
In 2009, Stony Brook has gone 0-4-1, being defeated by Iona, East Carolina, North Carolina State, and Quinnipiac. Their tie came against Rutgers who was ranked 23 in the nation at the time.
