PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Sophomore volleyball student-athlete Lauren Fletcher (Syracuse, N.Y.) earned Independent Volleyball Player of the Week honors on Tuesday, September 15. It marks the first time Fletcher has won the award in her career.
The 6-1 middle blocker notched 62 kills, 15 total blocks (six solo) and hit at a .319 clip in five matches last week for the Friars. Against Lehigh on Sept. 11, she tied a career-high with 19 kills and added four total blocks. In the Friars' matchup with Lafayette on Sept. 12, she posted a team-high 18 kills while hitting at a .366 mark and added a match-high three solo blocks. In 2009, she leads the Friars with 131 kills and 44 total blocks.
On the season, Fletcher has also earned Niagara Invitational and Volley in the Valley All-Tournament Team honors.
The Friars are back in action tonight with a 6:00 p.m. matchup against Dartmouth College in Mullaney Gymnasium at Alumni Hall. Admission is free.
