PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College volleyball team (9-16, 1-4) heads to Smithfield, R.I., for a non-conference showdown with Bryant (14-12, 2-6). The match on Wednesday, October 20, is set for 7:00 p.m.

The Friars are looking to snap a four-match skid that has seen them drop three-straight league matches and back-to-back home matches. Head coach Margot Royer-Johnson is hoping a non-conference road match will provide an opportunity for the Friars turn things around.

Providence is led by junior Lauren Fletcher (Syracuse, N.Y.), who is second in America East in kills (3.76 per set), hitting percentage (.324) and blocks (1.14 per set). The middle blocker is the only player in the league who ranks in the top-10 in five categories (kills, hitting percentage, blocks, service aces and points). The Friars also have front row contributions from junior Shelgah Dolan (Westford, Mass.), who is averaging 1.87 kills per set. The attack is setup by junior Carly Morrison, whose 7.78 assists per set are good for fifth in the league.

The top defender is sophomore libero Cassie Muzzonigro (Gibsonia, Pa.), who is averaging 4.02 digs per set, placing her second in the conference. The back row also has seen strong play from senior co-captain Emily Morris (Hermosa Beach, Calif.), who is averaging 3.05 digs per set and picked up a season-high 24 digs in last week's match against Central Connecticut State.

The Opposition
Bryant University (14-12, 2-6 Northeast) The Bulldogs enter Wednesday's match coming off a 3-2 loss to St. Francis (N.Y.). Head coach Theresa Garlacy's squad has dropped three-straight, with their last win coming over Fairleigh Dickinson on October 9.

The Bulldog attack is led by juniors Jazmin Stoner and Maria Scocca, who are averaging 2.83 and 2.79 kills per set, respectively. Bryant's setter, sophomore Jadith Lorenzo, is averaging 8.15 assists per set. The back row is led by 4.54 digs per set from senior Robyn Gardner, while Lorenzo contributes 2.60 digs per set and sophomore Macy Mitravich is averaging 2.42 digs per set.

Bryant is 2-0 against America East foes this year, with wins over New Hampshire and Hartford. Providence is 2-1 against the Northeast Conference, with wins over St. Francis (N.Y.) and Fairleigh Dickinson, along with a loss to Central Connecticut State.

On-Deck
The Friars return to league play this weekend for a pair of matches with New Hampshire. The Wildcats visit Mullaney Gymnasium on Friday, October 22, for a 7:00 p.m. showdown. The teams then have a rematch in Durham, N.H., on Sunday, October 24, at 1:00 p.m.
