SMITHFIELD, R.I. - The Providence College volleyball team dropped a non-conference match to intrastate rival Bryant on Wednesday night in Smithfield, R.I. The Friars were defeated in three sets (11-25, 14-25, 23-25) and saw their record fall to 9-17. The Bulldogs improve to 15-12.

Providence was led by a pair of juniors, as Lauren Fletcher (Syracuse, N.Y.) and Shelagh Dolan (Westford, Mass.) notched nine and eight kills, respectively. The rest of the Friar attack struggled, as the remainder of the team only recorded seven kills, combined. Sophomore libero Cassie Muzzonigro (Gibsonia, Pa.) led the defense with 10 digs.

Two Bryant players reached the double-digit kill mark, as Kaitlyn Klein led the squad with 13 kills and Maria Scocca picked up 11. Nicole Perez and Jazmin Stoner added eight kills apiece, as well. Bulldog setter Jadith Lorenzo picked up 41 assists. The Bryant back row was led by 13 digs from Robyn Gardner.

The Friars dropped the first set, 25-11, registering only four kills in the frame, compared to 13 from the Bulldogs. The second set saw only slight improvement for Providence, picking up 9 kills, but Bryant upped their attack game as well, picking up 15 while hitting at a .333 clip and taking the set by a 14-25 score.

The third set was tight the whole way, seeing 12 ties and three lead changes. The biggest lead was a 14-10 Bulldog edge that quickly evaporated with Fletcher at the service line. She helped the Friars rattle off five-straight points and take a 15-14 lead. The set would remain neck-and-neck, with Bryant taking a timeout when the Friars had a 23-21 edge. The timeout was followed by a Friar service error and three straight kills by Bryant to take the set, 25-23, and the match, 3-0.

The Friars return to the court this Friday and Sunday, October 22 and 24, for a pair of America East matches against New Hampshire. Friday's match is at Providence's Mullaney Gymnasium at 7:00 p.m. The Friars then travel to Durham, N.H., for a 1:00 p.m. rematch on Sunday.
