Chestnut Hill, Mass. -

The women's swimming and diving team (0-2, 0-0 BIG EAST) was defeated by Boston College, 147-120, in a head-to-head meet held last night. The Friars, who were competitive throughout, could not muster up enough first-place finishes to take down the Eagles.

Sophomores Allie Black (Mystic, Conn.) and Amie Fracker (Trumbull, Conn.) continued their dominance in the 1m diving event. Both scored over 220 points to edge out five BC divers. Black earned the victory (226.05), while Fracker finished second (221.48). With the win, Black qualified for the BIG EAST Championship in the 1m diving event. The tandem of Black and Fracker has now finished one-two in the last three 1m diving competitions.

The swimming team was led by freshman Julia Rivera (Rockville, Md.) who recorded her first collegiate victory in the 100y breaststroke with a time of 1:11.50. The Friars also had a strong performance in the 100y freestyle event. Underclassmen Samantha DeGroff (Berlin, Conn.), Erin Nanna (Westwood, Mass.) and Jillian Mullany (Monroe, Conn.) all earned points in the event as they finished in first (56.84), second (57.57) and third place (57.87), respectively. Mullany also swam well in the 50y freestyle. She came in third (26.03), less than a second behind two veteran BC swimmers.

Senior captain Courtney Larcom (Morristown, N.J.) did well for the Friars in the two events she competed in. Larcom took home the win in the 500y freestyle (5:26.11) and also swam the fastest leg on her relay team in the 200y freestyle relay (26.56), helping the Friars take home a second-place finish in the event.

Both the men's and women's swimming and diving squads are back in the pool on Saturday, October 30, when they will travel to take on Fairfield. The meet will begin at 12 p.m.
