Swimming & Diving Teams Topped By Fairfield

Both the men's (0-2, 0-0 BIG EAST) and women's (0-3, 0-0 BIG EAST) swimming and diving teams lost to Fairfield on Saturday, October 30. The men fell 162-138, while the women dropped their decision, 170-130. The meet was held at Fairfield's Aquatic Center.

For the men, sophomore Eric Burtchell (Pawtucket, R.I.) went three-for-three. Burtchell won the 800m (9:07.29), 400m (4:19.90) and 200m (2:00.97) freestyle events. Fellow sophomore Chris Morales (Ridgewood, N.J.) also swam well for the Friars. Morales posted a victory in the 200m butterfly, finishing almost three seconds ahead of the field. Additionally, freshman Kenny Savage (Basking Ridge, N.J.) earned a win for the Friars in the 200m backstroke with a time of 2:16.09.

On the women's side, freshman Samantha DeGroff (Berlin, Conn.), freshman Jillian Mullany (Monroe, Conn.), senior Courtney Larcom (Morristown, N.J.) and sophomore Erin Nanna (Westwood, Mass.) teamed up to win the 400m freestyle relay. The squad beat out Fairfield's top foursome with a final time of 4:12.52.

In women's diving, Sophomore Allie Black (Mystic, Conn.) won both 1m diving heats on the day, posting a score of 160.80 in the first and 223.73 in the second. Black has not finished any lower than second in all five 1m diving competitions held this season. Sophomore Amie Fracker (Trumbull, Conn.) also dove well, earning two second place finishes in the heats.

The men's and women's swimming and diving teams are back in the pool on Saturday, November 6, when they travel to South Orange, N.J. to take on Seton Hall in their BIG EAST opener. The head-to-head meet is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
