Box Score

BOSTON, MASS. - Two Northeastern freshman combined for five goals as Providence College women's ice hockey fell to the host Huskies, 5-1, Sunday at Matthews Arena.

Friar goaltender Genevieve Lacasse, tested often, recorded 41 saves in the effort. It was the seventh game this season in which the junior has stopped at least 35 shots.

Providence broke through first at 6:24 o the opening period. Junior's Abby Gauthier and Kate Bacon (Chanhassen, Minn) combined to win possession along the boards in the attack zone. Bacon attacked the net, faked a shot, and fed classmate/linemate Ashley Cottrell who was all alone left of the doorstep. Cottrell easily deposited her fifth of the year for a 1-0 Friar lead.

NU answered with only 50 seconds remaining in the first, when Katie MacSorley converted on a backhand from the right face-off circle to knot the game, 1-1.

The middle period was controlled by the Huskies, who received another goal from McSorley on a 2 on 1 break and a score from freshman Claire Santostefano on a redirect, sending the teams into the second intermission with a 3-1 Huskie lead.

In the third, Northeastern received another strike from MacSorly to complete a hat trick, and Santostefano's second of the game, off a turnover, to round out the scoring.

The Friars return to action on Black Friday, November 26, with a 4 pm visit to Brown and the annual Mayor's Cup. The game was scheduled to be played outdoors at the Bank of America Skating Center in downtown Providence, however weather and ice conditions are forcing the a move indoors to Brown's Meehan Auditorium.

Providence returns home on Sunday, November 28 when Union arrives at Schnieder Arena for a 4 pm start. Tickets are available by calling the PC ticket office at (401) 865 GOPC.
