Men's Hockey Ranked No. 20 In USCHO.com Poll

The Providence College men's hockey team is ranked 20th in this week's USCHO.com national poll which was released on Monday, December 5. It marks the first time since March 2008 that the Friars have been ranked nationally.
Providence is coming off consecutive wins against No. 1 ranked Merrimack. On December 2, the Friars defeated the Warriors, 2-1, in overtime at Schneider Arena. It marked Providence's first win against a top-ranked team since January 3, 2003. Senior Andy Balysky (Randolph, N.J.) scored a short-handed goal to give the Friars a 1-0 lead after two periods and freshman Ross Mauermann (Janesville, Wis.) scored in overtime as the Friars handed Merrimack its first loss of the season. Senior goalie Alex Beaudry (Cumberland, Ont.) made 26 saves.
The following night in North Andover, Mass., the Friars scored five power-play goals, including four in the second period en route to a 6-1 triumph over the Warriors. The five power-play goals were the most by a Friar team since November 4, 1994. Freshman Drew Brown (Grass Lake, Mich.) scored the first two goals of the game, while juniors Tim Schaller (Merrimack, N.H.) and Myles Harvey (Orlando, Fla.) also scored in the second period as the Friars led, 4-0 after two periods. Junior Chris Rooney (Canton, Mass.) and senior Matt Bergland (Faribault, Minn.) each scored in the third period to complete the scoring. Bergland finished with one goal and three assists for four points. Beaudry totaled 23 saves as the Friars won their first game at Merrimack's Lawler Arena since March 3, 2007.
The Friars (8-6-1, 6-3-0 Hockey East) are back in action on Tuesday, December 6 at 7:00 p.m. when they face No. 3 Boston College (11-5-0, 8-3-0 Hockey East) at Kelley Rink in Chestnut Hill, Mass.
