The men's and women's diving teams wrapped up the 2010-11 season at the BIG EAST Championships on Friday and Saturday, February 11 and 12 at the University of Louisville's Ralph R. Wright Natatorium.

For the men, sophomore Ben Kardian finished in 16th place in the 1m preliminary trials while senior James Cebulski rounded out the field in 20th place. Kardian's finish in the preliminary trials qualified him for the consolation event on Friday night, in which he placed 8th. On the women's side, sophomores Allie Black (Mystic, Conn.) and Amie Fracker (Trumbull, Conn.) placed 20th and 34th in the preliminary trials.

In the 1m prelims on Friday, Kardian posted a 6-dive combined score of 219.15. At first, he struggled to score big figures with the judges, as two out his first three dives scored below 30 points. Kardian rebounded to qualify for the 1m consolation round with three dives-including a back somersault in pike position with 2.5 twists-that each scored 39 points or higher. In the consolation event on Friday night, Kardian once again started slow, but executed difficult dives in the last three rounds to make things competitive. Kardian finished the consolation event with 229.50-less than 5 points behind the seventh-place finisher.

Cebulski earned a score of 33.80 in the first round of diving thanks to a forward 2.5 somersault in pike position. For his second dive, Cebulski completed a back 1.5 somersault in pike position that scored 31.05. Cebulski finished with 170.60 points.

Notre Dame senior Eric Lex took home the hardware in the 1m diving finals. Lex ran away with the event by more than 19 points, posting a combined total of 355.60.

In the women's 1m diving preliminary event on Saturday, Black improved eight spots from last year's BIG EAST Championship finish. Black's consistency helped her place 20th out of the 34-diver field. Four of her six dives scored in the 30s, with her best dive coming in round one (forward double somersault: 41.40). Fracker finished with a score of 126.80 to round out the field.

Louisville sophomore Hannah Gadd won the women's 1m diving event for a second straight year with a score of 329.95 in the finals. The score is a BIG EAST Championship record.

The BIG EAST Diving Championships marked the last event for the 2010-11 men's diving program. Black will represent the women's team at the NCAA Zone Regional Championships in Annapolis, Md. on Friday March 11.
