HANOVER, N.H. - The Providence College volleyball team fell in straight sets (17-25, 17-25, 17-25) to Dartmouth in their first match at the Dartmouth Invitational. The Friars drop to 4-9 on the season, while Dartmouth improves to 6-3.
Providence got another outstanding effort from senior middle blocker Lauren Fletcher (Syracuse, N.Y.). The captain notched 13 kills on 17 attempts, without committing an error, good for a .765 hitting percentage.
Classmate and fellow captain Carly Morrison (Larkspur, Calif.) picked-up 21 assists running the offense. Junior libero Cassie Muzzonigro (Gibsonia, Pa.) picked up a match-high 16 digs.
The Big Green was led by Madeline Baird, who recorded 12 kills. Elisa Scudder and Annie Villenueva added eight and seven kills, respectively. Setter Alissa Santa Maria picked up 21 assists. The Dartmouth back row was led by 10 digs apiece from Baird and Santa Maria.
The Friars return to action at the Dartmouth Invitational tomorrow when they face Delaware State at 11:00 a.m. Providence wraps-up their final in-season tournament of 2011 when they take on Central Connecticut State at 3:00 p.m.
