PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College volleyball team (5-10) travels to the Bronx, N.Y., for a non-conference showdown with Manhattan College (5-5, 1-0 Metro-Atlantic). First serve between the Friars and Jaspers is set for 7:00 p.m.

Providence is led into the match by reigning America East Player of the Week Lauren Fletcher (Syracuse, N.Y.). Last week, Fletcher became the ninth player in program history with at least 1,000 career kills, while making the Dartmouth Invitational All-Tournament Team.

On the week, she led all America East players in kills per set (4.60), hitting percentage (.482), blocks per set (1.70) and points per set (5.65). She now stands at 1,019 career kills, eighth most in Friar history. Her numbers have also made an impact nationally, as she currently ranks 32nd in the nation in hitting percentage (.379).

Fletcher is not the only Friar ranking among the best this season. Junior libero Cassie Muzzonigro (Gibsonia, Pa.) paces the squad with 5.28 digs per set, a total which leads the America East Conference and ranks 21st in the nation.

The Jaspers enter the match having won their last two, including a five-set win over Lafayette and a sweep of MAAC foe St. Peter's. They opened with a 2-1 mark at the Bucknell Invitational before falling in all three matches at the Washington State Nike Cougar Challenge.

Malia McGuinness leads the Jasper attack, posting 3.26 kills per set. They also receive front row contributions from LaKell Havens (2.41 kills per set), Mariana Furquim (2.41) and Alexa Lampasona (2.38). The offense runs through Hollegn Henderson, who is averaging 9.29 assists per set.

Defensively, Jamie Collareta leads the way for Manhattan. She is recording exactly 3.00 digs per set. Four other Jaspers are averaging at least 2.00 digs per set - Julie Bies (2.32), Sarah Haselhorts (2.15), Kelsey Huntoon (2.03) and McGuinness (2.15).

The Friars have a full week off before traveling to Kingston, R.I., on Wednesday, September 28, to face intrastate rival Rhode Island in their final non-league match before America East play begins. First serve at URI's Keaney Gymnasium is set for 7:00 p.m. and the match will be televised by Cox Sports on a tape-delayed basis.
