Friars Battle Stony Brook On The Road, Friday

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College volleyball team (1-26, 0-9) will travel to Stony Brook, N.Y. to face off with the Stony Brook Seawolves on Friday, November 2 at 7:00 p.m. in Stony Brook, N.Y.

The Friars played two matches last week, dropping both at home to UMBC on Friday, October 26 and to Binghamton on Sunday, October 28. Freshman Jordan Wiesler (Coconut Creek Fla.) collected a double-double in each match. Wiesler collected 41 assists on Friday, 38 assists on Sunday and 10 digs in each match, giving her six double-doubles on the season.

The Friars are led by sophomores Anna Russian (Round Rock, Texas) and Colleen McCollom (Indian Head Park, Ill.) with 217 and 215 kills respectively. Russian also leads the team with a .210 hitting percentage. Senior Cassie Muzzonigro (Gibsonia, Pa.) has a team-high 401 digs and holds the fourth-highest digs per set average (4.52) in conference play for the America East.

Scouting Stony Brook (9-12, 4-4): The Seawolves are coming off of back-to-back road wins this weekend to improve their conference record to 4-4. On Friday, Stony Brook won an in-state battle versus Albany in four sets before taking down Hartford in four sets on Sunday, October 28. Melissa Rigo leads the team with 357 kills and a league-high 4.52 kills per set average in conference play. Five players for the Seawolves have amassed over 180 digs this season, including Rigo who currently sits at 199 digs.

The Friars will return home for a midweek matchup with in-state rival Rhode Island on Wednesday, November 7 at 7:00 p.m.
