PROVIDENCE, R.I. --The Providence College volleyball team dropped its season opener to Hofstra in straight sets (25-22, 25-19, 25-15) in Hempstead, N.Y. on Friday, August 24. It marked the opening match for the Friars at the Hofstra Tournament.
The Friars (0-1, 0-0) were led by sophomore Mackenzie Ziegler (Portage, Wis.), who recorded 10 kills. Freshman Jordan Wiesler (Coconut Creek, Fla.) registered five kills and 18 assists in her first match as a Friar. Senior Cassie Muzzonigro (Gibsonia, Pa.) collected 11 digs during the match.
The Friars will play Marist later today, August 24, at 4:00 pm. The Friars will play Fairleigh Dickinson at 10:00 a.m. and UC Riverside at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 25 to close out the Hofstra Tournament.
The Friars will play their first match at home this season on Sunday, October 7 versus America East foe Stony Brook. This match will mark the first athletic event played in the renovated Mullaney Gymnasium in Alumni Hall.
