Final Stats

KINGSTON, R.I. - The Providence College men's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to twenty-fourth ranked Brown University in the title match of the 2012 Ocean State Soccer Classic at the Rhode Island Soccer Complex on Monday evening. With the win, Brown (2-0-0) snapped Providence's (1-3-0) streak of winning the first two Ocean State Soccer Classic titles.

Brown netted the game's only goal at 41:45 when Tommy Arms volleyed a centering cross from Ben Maurey into the back of the net from inside the six-yard box. The Friars generated a few chances during the first half, mostly from free-kick opportunities. The majority of the Bears' chances to that point had come off four first-half corner kicks, but Arms' goal was the first quality scoring chance for either team.

In the 66th minute, the Friars had a free-kick from a few yards outside of the Brown 18-yard box. On the restart, sophomore midfielder Marcos Ugarte (Providence, R.I.) touched the ball to sophomore midfielder Thomas Ballenthin (Lexington, Mass.), who fired a low shot past the wall and to the far post, but Brown goalkeeper Sam Kernan-Schloss made his first save of the match. With five minutes to play, junior forward Brian Grisell (Brookfield, Conn.) had a header saved off of a Marc Cintron (Piscataway, N.J.) chip pass into the box. Grisell had a shot blocked in the final minute of play in what was the final Friar chance of the night.

Friar red shirt sophomore goalkeeper Keasel Broome (Claymont, Del.) finished with one save in the match, while Kernan-Schloss made two saves.

For Providence, Broome, Brandon Adler (Montville, N.J.) and Wilder Arboleda (Pawtucket, R.I.) were named to the 2012 Ocean State Classic All-Tournament Team.

The Friars return to the field at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 7 when they welcome Boston University to Glay Field for their home opener.
