Women's Soccer Downs UNH, 4-1

DURHAM, N.H. - The Providence College women's soccer team notched its second win of the season with a 4-1 victory over the New Hampshire Wildcats on Friday, Aug. 30 at Bremner Field. The Friars own a record of 2-1 including a 2-0 record on the road. Sophomore Kathryn Hiller (Dartmouth, Mass.) tallied three goals to notch her first career hat trick as a Friar.

Providence jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the ninth minute of the game when sophomore Lauren Elia (Erie, Pa.) found the back of the net. Hiller increased the Friars lead to 2-0 when she finished a pass from fellow sophomore Courtney Maguire (Smithfield, R.I.). Providence carried a 2-0 lead into halftime.

New Hampshire tallied its only goal of the game in the 47th minute when Jenna Shaddock finished a feed from Kennedy Nickerson. Providence answered in the 48th minute when Hiller notched her second goal of the match. Senior Amanda Webster (Saugus, Mass.) dished Hiller a pass whose strike beat the Wildcat's keeper to take the 3-1 advantage.

Hiller completed her hat trick in the 61st minute. She found the back of the net for the third time to tally her first three-goal game as a Friar. Providence was able to hold on to its 4-1 lead until the end of regulation.

Providence outshot New Hampshire, 14-8, and held the advantage in corners, 6-4.

Freshman keeper Kristyn Shea (Piscataway, N.J.) recorded her third consecutive start for the Friars. She played 82:52 minutes in net and recorded three saves. Sophomore goalkeeper Megan Sweeney (Coral Springs, Fla.) played the remaining 7:08 minutes in goal.

Providence returns to action on Friday, Sept. 6, when the Friars host Massachusetts. The game is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. and will be played at Glay Field.
