PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College women's soccer team fell to Cincinnati, 3-0, on Sunday, Sept. 22 in an afternoon match up at Glay Field in Providence, R.I. The game marked the conclusion of Providence's non-conference slate. The Friars head into BIG EAST play with an overall record of 3-3-3.
The Friars trailed Cincinnati 1-0 after Danielle Rotheram finished a strike. Her goal marked the only goal of the first half, and the Bearcats carried a 1-0 lead into the half.
Cincinnati increased their lead to 2-0 in the 52nd minute when Emily Elsbrock found the back of the net.
The Bearcats notched their third and final goal of the game in the 87th minute when Laura Rose buried a shot to the top left corner. The remainder of regulation was scoreless and Cincinnati held its 3-0 lead until the final whistle.
Three of Providence's keepers recorded time in goal. Freshman Kristyn Shea (Piscataway, N.J.) played the first 56 minutes in goal. Sophomore Megan Sweeney (Coral Springs, Fla.) recorded 25 minutes in the goalmouth and junior Jessica Goudreault (Sherborn, Mass.) played the final 7:59 minutes in goal.
Providence returns to action on Thursday, Sept. 26 when the Friars travel to South Orange, N.J. to face Seton Hall in their BIG EAST opener. The game is slated for 7:00 p.m. and will be played at Owen T. Carroll Field.
