PROVIDENCE, R.I.- The Providence College volleyball team (6-9) will host Bryant (2-13) at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 25 in Alumni Hall. The game will be the Friars' last non-conference game before they open up American East play on Sunday.
Both schools played Brown this year, with Providence picking up a 3-0 win and Bryant losing, 3-0.
The Friars last played in the Ninth Annual Friar Classic on Friday, Sept. 20 and Saturday, Sept. 21. Providence went 1-3 in the tournament beating Tournament Champion, Howard (3-1), in its final match. Sophomore Lindsay Witt(Basking Ridge, N.J.) was named to the All-Tournament Team. Witt is second in the America East with a .280 hitting percentage and fifth in blocks (45).
The Friars enter the match led by junior Mackenzie Ziegler (Portage, Wis.) who has 140 kills, which ranks fourth in the America East. Sophomore Jordan Wiesler (Coconut Creek, Fla.) has recorded 489 assists, ranking second in the America East. Freshman Michelle Cruz (Midland Park, N.J.) has registered 225 digs and 24 service aces which ranks first and second, respectively, in the American East. She also ranks 33rd in the country in aces per set (.46).
SCOUTING BRYANT: Bryant stands at 2-13 on the season. The Bulldogs have lost their last two games against Stony Brook (3-0) and St. John's (3-0) on Saturday, Sept. 21. Bryant is led by Claire Van Dyk, who has 145 kills, Jana Kmec has a team-leading 403 assists and Elena Lohr has 147 digs.
