Kayla Fitzgerald Named America East Rookie Of The Week

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Providence College volleyball freshman Kayla Fitzgerald (Redlands, Calif.) was named Rookie of the Week by the America East, announced by the conference on Monday, Sept. 30. Fitzgerald helped the Friars go 2-0 the past week with wins against Bryant on Wednesday, Sept. 25 (3-1) and Hartford on Sunday, Sept. 29 (3-0). The Friars have improved to 8-9 on the season and have a 1-0 mark in the America East.

In a 3-1 win against Bryant, Fitzgerald recorded a double-double, registering 16 kills and 17 digs. She also added four service aces in the team's last non-conference game.

Fitzgerald again led her team in kills with 11 in the Friars' 3-0 win over Hartford in their conference opener.

For the week, Fitzgerald totaled 27 kills, 24 digs, six blocks and four service aces in two games. Currently, she ranks fourth in the America East in service aces (22), seventh in kills (139) and ninth in digs (169).

The Friars continue their homestand when they face Binghamton on Friday, Oct. 4 (6:00 p.m.) and Albany on Saturday, Oct. 5 at (5:00 p.m.). Both games will be played at Alumni Hall in Providence, R.I.
