PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College women's soccer team blanked the Vermont Catamounts, 3-0, in an afternoon tilt on Glay Field in Providence, R.I. Three Friars found the back of the net to propel Providence to its third victory of the season. With the win, the Friars improve their record to 3-1-1 while the Catamounts fall to 1-3-0.

The first 45 minutes were scoreless. Providence dominated the pace of the game and pressured Vermont's defense for the entire half. The Friars generated eight shots but were not able to find the back of the net.

Providence struck in the 61st minute when sophomore Catherine Zimmerman (Madison, N.J.) headed in a cross serviced by teammate Kathryn Hiller (Dartmouth, Mass.). Hiller's cross from the right side of field was headed on to Zimmerman by senior Amanda Webster (Saugus, Mass.) and was buried by Zimmerman to take the 1-0 advantage.

The Friars increased their lead to 2-0 in the 86th minute when Webster tallied her second goal of the season. In a scrum in front of the Catamount's goal, Webster's strike reached the back of the net.

Freshman Rachel Ugolik (Hamden, Conn.) notched the third and final goal of the game in the 88th minute. Zimmerman guided a pass to Ugolik who beat Vermont's keeper with a strike to the lower left corner for her second goal of the season.

Freshman keeper Kristyn Shea (Piscataway, N.J.) earned her fifth start in goal for the Friars. Sophomore keeper Megan Sweeney (Coral Springs, Fla.) served as the Friars' goalie in the second half. The two combined for the Friars' second shutout of the season.Sweeney finished with one save to notch her first win of the 2013 campaign.

Overall, the Friars out shot the Catamounts, 19-3, and held the advantage in corners, 3-2.
