PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College volleyball team will host St. John's on Saturday, Oct. 25. The match is set to begin at 2:00 p.m. and is the team's PINK OUT FRIARTOWN event to raise money and awareness for breast cancer.
Providence (4-19, 0-9 BIG EAST) is led by sophomore Kayla Fitzgerald (Redlands, Calif.), who is averaging 2.86 kills per set. Junior Jordan Wiesler (Coconut Creek, Fla.) has recorded 7.95 assists per set, which ranks eighth in the BIG EAST. Sophomore Michelle Cruz (Midland Park, N.J.) has registered 5.01 digs per set and 0.28 service aces per set. Cruz is second in the BIG EAST in digs and ranks fourth in service aces.
Last weekend, the Friars fell 3-0 to Georgetown (Oct. 17) and Creighton (Oct. 19).
SCOUTING ST. JOHN'S (15-9, 4-5 BIG EAST): The Red Storm split last weekend's matchups with a 3-0 loss at Creighton (Oct. 17) and a 3-1 win at Georgetown (Oct. 19). Karin Palgutova leads St. John's with 4.06 kills per set. Deniz Mutlugil has registered 10.53 assists per set while Shawna-Lei Santos leads the defense with 4.02 digs per set. Collectively, the Red Storm lead the conference in service aces.
After St. John's, the Friars will host a pair of matchups at Alumni Hall on Friday, Oct. 31 against Villanova and Saturday, Nov. 1 versus Seton Hall. The Villanova match will start at 7:00 p.m. and Seton Hall contest will begin at 5:00 p.m.
