The Friars wasted little time getting on the scoreboard in the first period as senior Beth Hanrahan (Poolesville, Md.) notched her second goal of the season 4:54 into the action. Senior Victoria Virtue (Walpole, Mass.) and sophomore Cassidy Carels (Bruxelles, Manitoba) were credited with assists on the play.
The Bulldogs tied the game, 1-1, at the 14:23 mark of the first period as Krista Yip-Chuck converted a feed from Janelle Ferrara. The two teams headed into the first intermission locked at 1-1.
The two teams were scoreless in the second period until Ferrara notched a goal at 17:23 on a Yale power play. Yip-Chick earned the assist on the go-ahead goal and then went on to score her second goal of the game just two minutes later (19:26). Jamie Haddad and Ferrara assisted on the goal.
In the third period, Yale took a 4-1 lead at the 18:46 mark as Eden Murray found the back of an empty net off a feed from Aurora Kennedy. She let loose a shot from in front of the Bulldog's bench, just inside the blue line.
The Friars answered back just 30-seconds later as senior Haley Frade (Marion, Mass.) notched her second of the season from Hanrahan and sophomore Arianna Reid (Lakeville, Minn.). Frade's goal got Providence to within two (4-2).
The Bulldogs didn't let up despite having a two-goal advantage, and finished off the Friars on a power play goal with just 13 seconds left in regulation.
Yale held the advantage in shots for the game, outshooting Providence 33-26, however, the Friars outshot the Bulldogs 15-5 in the third period.
