PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College women's soccer team was defeated by Marquette, 4-0, on Saturday, Oct. 25 at the Ray Treacy Track. The Friars are now 8-7-3 (BIG EAST 4-4-0), while Marquette records 9-7-2 (BIG EAST 5-2-1).

In the 22nd minute of play, Marquette's Alex Heffron finished a feed from Darian Powell to take the lead, 1-0. Heffron came back in the 23rd minute of play to register an unassisted goal to make the game, 2-0.

The Golden Eagles responded again in the 32nd minute of play with a goal from Powell. The assist on the Golden Eagles' third goal was from Liz Bartels.

Marquette's final goal was from Ashely Handwork who scored off a corner kick from Jacie Jermier in the 43rd minute, giving Marquette a 4-0 lead.

Sophomore Kristyn Shea (Piscataway, N.J.) and junior Megan Sweeney (Coral Springs, Fla.) split time in net for the Friars. Shea recorded one save in the first half, while Sweeney registered two saves in the second half.

"It was a disappointing performance in the first half and credit to Marquette as they took advantage to score four goals," said Head Coach Sam Lopes. "The second half was the complete opposite, but goals never came! It was a very valuable lesson and we'll learn from it and continue to grow."

The Friars will return to action for their final game of the season at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 31 at the Ray Treacy Track.
