PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College volleyball team announced that six student-athletes have signed National Letters of Intent to join the Friars for the 2015 campaign.

Emily Stoppler will join the Friars as a defensive specialist from Redmond, Wash. She currently attends Bellevue Christian High School, where she has earned four varsity letters in volleyball. Through Nov. 7 she has compiled 1525 digs (5.3 per set) and 239 service aces while starting all four years. This season she helped her team win the Nisqually League Championship. She also has played club volleyball for eight years, most recently with the Kent Juniors Volleyball Club (2012-present). With the team, she helped them finish 25th in the 18 Open at USAV Nationals and place first in the Pacific NW Region. Stoppler is a three-time First Team All-League and Defensive Player of the Year. As a freshman she was named Rookie of the Year. In 2011, she made the USA Volleyball Performance Continental Team.

"Emily is a quick and instinctual defender," said Head Coach Margot Royer Johnson. "Her platform is good and she is a good fit for the fast paced BIG EAST. We are excited to have her part of our team."

Megan Onyundo will come to Providence as an outside hitter from Woodbridge, Va. She is currently attending Osbourn Park High School where she earned four varsity letters playing volleyball. She also played club volleyball for Metro American for three years. In 2014, Onyundo was named Conference Player of the Year and All-Conference First Team. In her junior season she earned All-Region Tournament Team, All-Region Honorable Mention, All-Conference First Team and Loudoun Valley All-Tournament Team. In 2012 she was named All-District Second team, while in 2011 she earned Most Improved and All-District Honorable Mention.

"Megan is a great all-around player," said Royer Johnson. "She hits hard and can control shots. She passes well as she has great instincts for the game. Her training with Metro will help her with her transition to college play."

Allison Impellizeri comes to Friartown as a middle blocker from Seaford, N.Y., earning three varsity letters for volleyball at St. Anthony's High School, captaining the team for two years. She earned MVP and All-Tournament honors at the Wantaugh Invitational. Impellizeri also earned the MVP of the league championship game. During the season, she recorded 37 kills, 11 blocks and seven service aces in her highest scoring match. While at St. Anthony's, she helped her team win two league championships and go undefeated in league play, winning all seven tournaments they competed in. Impellizeri also played club volleyball for Long Island Volleyball Academy for four years, captaining the team one year.

"Allie is long and quick," said Royer Johnson. "She moves very well laterally which makes her vital at the speed of our new conference. She has been trained well at Academy and we are so happy she is a Friar."

Kara Mason joins the Friars as a right side hitter/defensive specialist from West Palm Beach, Fla. She attended Boca Raton High School for two years and currently attends St. Thomas Aquinas High School, playing a total of four years of varsity volleyball. As of Nov. 7 Mason has tallied 170 kills, 189 digs, 31 service aces 24 total blocks and a .331 hitting percentage. Mason was most recently named a 2014-15 Under Armour Honorable Mention All-American, which was announced by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) on Nov. 5. For three years Mason led her team to the state districts and regionals, winning the state championship her sophomore year and making the semi-finals her junior year. She had played club volleyball for six different teams, most recently with Boomers Black 18. Mason has captained her club teams as well as her high school team.

"Kara is a tough minded defender and a savvy hitter as well," said Royer Johnson. "Her reflexes are very quick and she plays all-out all the time. She will be a great asset to us both defensively and offensively."

Catherine Harding enters Providence as a setter from Kalamazoo, Mich., where she attends Hackett Catholic Prep, earning three varsity letters in volleyball. With her high school team, she earned two All-Conference First Team nominations and one All-Region First Team honor. She also led her team to the District Championship. Harding plays club volleyball for USA Michigan. She captained both her high school and club teams from 2012-15.

"Catherine competes at a high level with her club team and has great hands," said Royer Johnson. "She knows the game well and will be a great leader for our offense. She has a never lose attitude that will help us moving forward."

Emily Horner joins the Friars as an opposite hitter/middle blocker from Mission Viejo, Calif. She attends Capistrano Valley High School where she earned Offensive Player of the Year. She also earned MVP in the Venice tournament her senior year. Horner has put together 30 or more kills in four matches during her senior campaign. In addition to playing for her high school, Horner played club volleyball for Laguna Beach (Two years) and T-Street (five years). She captained T-Street for the 16's and 17's teams. Horner was a top five middle blocker and outside hitter in SCVA T-Street.

"Emily comes from a great club program in T-Street," said Royer Johnson. "She is a strong hitter with great fundamentals. Her ball control will help us as we continue in the BIG EAST. We are thrilled she chose Providence."
