Volleyball Falls To Georgetown, 3-1

The Friars return to action on Saturday, Nov. 15 at 4:00 p.m. at Villanova to close out the regular season.


WASHINGTON, D.C.- The Providence College volleyball team (12-16, 3-12 BIG EAST) was defeated by Georgetown University (14-14, 7-8 BIG EAST) in four sets (3-1) on Friday, Nov. 14 during BIG EAST action.

FIRST SET HIGHLIGHTS: Georgetown earned a 25-13 victory in the first set. 

  • Georgetown jumped out to a quick 7-1 lead.
  • The Hoyas extended their lead to 14-7, forcing a Friars' timeout.
  • Providence called another timeout after Georgetown further advanced its lead to 19-10.
  • The Hoyas maintained their lead and won the first set, 25-13.

SECOND SET HIGHLIGHTS: Georgetown won the second set, 25-21.

  • The two teams went back-and-forth before the set was tied, 13-13, at the halfway point.
  • Providence took a timeout after Georgetown took the lead, 19-16.
  • Georgetown maintained its lead and won the set, 25-21.
  • Sophomore Sophia Adkins (Cincinnati, Ohio) led the Friars with eight kills through set two.

THIRD SET HIGHLIGHTS: Providence won the third set, 25-22.

  • The two teams played evenly to tie the set at 7-7.
  • Georgetown went on a 3-0 run and forced a Providence timeout (10-7).
  • The Friars took another timeout after the Hoyas extended their lead to 17-12.
  • Freshman Kaia Easterbrook (Canton, Ga.) and Adkins combined for a block to tie the set again, 18-18.
  • Providence outscored Georgetown 7-4 to win the set, 25-22.

FOURTH SET HIGHLIGHTS: Georgetown won the set, and the match, 3-1.

  • Georgetown came out strong with a 10-7 lead, forcing a Providence timeout.
  • The Hoyas extended their lead to 16-12, prompting a second Friars' timeout.
  • Adkins had three aces to narrow Georgetown's lead to 23-24.
  • The Hoyas maintained their lead to win the set, 25-23, and the match, 3-1.

MATCH NOTES:

  • Adkins led the team with 11 kills.
  • Redshirt freshman Audrey Kocon (Shoreview, Minn.) had a double-double with 16 assists and 12 digs.
  • Easterbrook recorded six blocks.
  • Redshirt senior Hadley Pride (Nashville, Tenn.) led the defense with 14 digs.
  • The Friars notched 42 kills, seven blocks and 51 digs.

WHAT'S NEXT: The Providence College volleyball team will conclude the regular season in Vilanova, Pa., on Saturday, Nov. 15 at 4:00 p.m. against Villanova
