PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College volleyball team will host Creighton on Friday, Nov. 14 and Georgetown on Saturday, Nov. 15. Friday's match will start at 7:00 p.m. while Saturday's contest will begin at 3:00 p.m. Saturday's game will honor seniors Mackenzie Ziegler (Portage, Wis.), Colleen McCollom (Indian Head Park, Ill.), Elizabeth Hoyt (San Luis Obispo, Calif.), Kelly Ashmore (St. Louis, Mo.) and Annie Russian (Round Rock, Texas). The ceremony will take place prior to the start of the match.
Last weekend the Friars defeated DePaul, 3-2, on Friday, Nov. 7 and lost to Marquette, 3-0, on Saturday, Nov. 8.
Providence (5-23, 1-13 BIG EAST) is led by sophomore Kayla Fitzgerald (Redlands, Calif.), who is averaging 2.73 kills per set. Junior Jordan Wiesler (Coconut Creek, Fla.) has recorded 8.07 assists per set, which ranks eighth in the BIG EAST. Sophomore Michelle Cruz (Midland Park, N.J.) has registered 4.98 digs per set and 0.29 service aces per set. Cruz is second in the BIG EAST in digs and ranks third in service aces.
SCOUTING CREIGHTON (20-7, 13-1 BIG EAST): Creighton currently ranks first the BIG EAST standings. As a team, the Bluejays lead the conference in kills (14.26 per set) and assists (13.23 per set). Creighton is led by Kelli Browning who is averaging 3.37 kills per set. Browning also leads the BIG EAST in hitting percentage (.373) and blocks (1.46 per set). Maggie Baumert has a team-best 9.90 assists per set while Kate Elman leads the defense with 4.48 digs per set.
SCOUTING GEORGETOWN (9-18, 3-11 BIG EAST): The Hoyas are led by Terese Cannon who has registered 3.12 kills per set. Caitlin Brauneis had tallied a team-best 9.65 assists per set and Mackenzie Simpson has recorded a team-high 4.46 digs per set.
Next up, the Friars close out the 2014 season with road matches at Butler on Friday, Nov. 21 and at Xavier on Saturday, Nov. 22. The Butler contest will start at 12:00 p.m. ET while the Xavier match will begin at 7:00 p.m. ET.
