CINCINNATI, Ohio. - The Providence College volleyball team was defeated by Xavier, 3-0 (26-24, 25-15, 25-10), on Saturday night. Sophomore Kayla Johnson (Silver Spring, Md.) led the Friars with six kills in the match. Providence finishes the 2014 campaign at 6-26 and 2-16 in the BIG EAST while Xavier improves to 19-11 and 12-6 in conference play.
Xavier needed extra points to pick up the first set, 26-24. Johnson led Providence in the stanza with four kills. Junior Jordan Wiesler (Coconut Creek, Fla.) tallied 12 assists.
The Musketeers closed out the match by winning the second (25-15) and third (25-10) sets.
In addition to Johnson, the Friars were led by freshman Abbie Trzeciak (Cranberry Township, Pa.) and Abigail Dix (Gibsonia, Pa.) who tallied 4 kills each. Wiesler finished with 21 assists while senior Kelly Ashmore (St. Louis, Mo.) had a team-high eight digs.
Xavier was led by Abbey Bessler who had 13 kills. Aubree Smith registered 29 assists and Jesse Earl contributed 11 digs.
