PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College volleyball team will travel to compete against DePaul on Friday, Nov. 7 and Marquette on Saturday, Nov. 8. Friday's match will start at 8:00 p.m. while Saturday's contest will begin at 6:00 p.m.
The Friars faced both DePaul and Marquette earlier in the season, falling 3-0 to both teams.
Providence (4-22, 0-12 BIG EAST) is led by sophomore Kayla Fitzgerald (Redlands, Calif.), who is averaging 2.80 kills per set. Junior Jordan Wiesler (Coconut Creek, Fla.) has recorded 7.90 assists per set, which ranks eighth in the BIG EAST. Sophomore Michelle Cruz (Midland Park, N.J.) has registered 5.02 digs per set and 0.29 service aces per set. Cruz is second in the BIG EAST in digs and ranks third in service aces.
Last weekend, the Friars fell 3-0 to Villanova (Oct. 31) and 3-0 to Seton Hall (Nov. 1).
SCOUTING DE PAUL (3-22, 1-12 BIG EAST): The Blue Demons are led by Saige Gallop who has tallied 3.15 kills per set. Colleen Smith has recorded a team-best 8.29 assists per set while Lexi Chanos leads the defense with 2.99 digs per set.
SCOUTING MARQUETTE (20-6, 10-3 BIG EAST): Marquette is tied for second in the BIG EAST standings with Seton Hall, with a 10-3 conference record. Autumn Baily leads the Golden Eagles in kills with 4.46 per set, which ranks her first in the conference. Bailey also leads the BIG EAST in service aces, with 0.42 per set. Gabby Benda has the team lead in assists with 7.71 per set. Lauren Houg has the team-high 4.19 per set. As a team, Marquette leads the BIG EAST in hitting percentage with a .258 average.
After the away contests, the Friars return to Alumni Hall for its final weekend of home competition for the 2014 season. On Friday, Nov. 14 Providence will host Creighton at 7:00 p.m. The Friars will be having Senior Day at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 15 against Georgetown. The Senior Day ceremony will begin prior to the start of the match.
