Morgan State won the first set, 25-17. Fitzgerald posted four kills in the set. Junior Jordan Wiesler (Coconut Creek, Fla.) added eight assists.
The Bears took the second set with the same score (25-17) to take a 2-0 match lead. Each team tallied three team blocks and there were three lead changes. Fitzgerald contributed three kills.
Providence won the third set, 25-13, to pull within one set of Morgan State for the match (2-1).Fitzgerald tallied five kills while Wiesler recorded eight assists. Sophomore Michelle Cruz (Midland Park, N.J.) registered six digs. The Friars held the lead the entire set while registering a team .333 hitting percentage.
Morgan State retaliated by winning the fourth set, 25-17, taking the match, 3-1. The score was tied three times in the stanza along with one lead change.
For the match Fitzgerald had a match-high 15 kills. Wiesler led the Friars with 27 assists while Cruz had a match-best 16 digs.
"I'm really proud of how we played as a team tonight," said Head Coach Margot Royer-Johnson.
Morgan State was led by Arianna Hayden and Samantha Prescott who recorded 13 and 10 kills, respectively. Hayden also led the Bears in digs with 14. Carmen Fernandez registered 35 assists.
The Friars will play again tomorrow in two matches in the Friar Classic. Providence will first compete against Fairleigh Dickinson at 10:30 a.m. and then versus Quinnipiac at 4:30 p.m.
