Sophomore Michelle Cruz leads the BIG EAST in digs

Volleyball To Compete At Villanova On Tuesday

Sept. 29, 2014 PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College volleyball team will travel to play against Villanova on Tuesday, Sept. 30 for a 6:00 p.m. match. This past weekend the Friars fell to Marquette (3-0) and DePaul (3-0) in BIG EAST play.

Providence (4-13, 0-3 BIG EAST) is led by sophomore Kayla Fitzgerald (Redlands, Calif.), averaging 2.83 kills per set. Junior Jordan Wiesler (Coconut Creek, Fla.) has recorded 8.18 assists per set, which ranks seventh in the BIG EAST. Sophomore Michelle Cruz (Midland Park, N.J.) has registered 5.08 digs per set and 0.29 services aces per set. Cruz leads the BIG EAST in digs and ranks fifth in service aces.

SCOUTING VILLANOVA (8-9, 1-1 BIG EAST): The Wildcats are led by Lauren Carpenter, who is averaging 3.98 kills per set, which ranks third in the conference. Emma Pettit leads the team in assists with 6.98 per set (ninth in the BIG EAST), while Allison Fitzgerald has a team-best 4.47 digs per set (fourth in the BIG EAST).

After the midweek match-up, the Friars travel to St. John's on Saturday, Oct. 4 for a 2:00 p.m. match.
