Vermont started off the game scoring three goals in a span of 40 seconds (7:56, 8:17 and 8:34). UVM's Dayna Colang scored the first two goals while Delia McNally scored the third. Providence responded with a power-play goal from senior Beth Hanrahan (Poolesville, Md.) at 11:02. She was assisted by sophomore Cassidy Carels (Bruxelles, Manitoba) and senior Brooke Simpson (Boxborough, Mass.). Simpson passed the puck cross ice where Carels deflected it to Hanrahan on the back side, where she finished for her team-best 13th goal of the season.
Colang picked up the Catamounts' fourth goal (18:41) on the power-play, to give her a hat trick, and UVM a 4-1 lead entering the first intermission.
The Catamounts added two more goals in the second period by Campbell (4:31) and Casey Levillee (10:38). In between the two, Carels notched a goal (5:03), for her second point of the game. Carels' goal was assisted by junior Lexi Romanchuk (San Jose, Calif.) and sophomore Arianna Reid (Lakeville, Minn.).
Providence added a power-play goal by senior Haley Frade (Marion, Mass.) from just outside the faceoff circle at 10:00 in the third to bring the score to 6-3, in favor of UVM. Romanchuk and Simpson assisted the tally.
Vermont retaliated with a goal from Bridget Baker to bring the score to its final of 7-3 (11:56). The goal was assisted by Brittany Zuback and Mackenzie MacNeil.
Juniors Allie Morse (Cottage Grove, Minn.) and Sarah Bryant (Bethlehem, Pa.) made 10 and 13 saves in the game, respectively.
Madison Litchfield made a total of 19 saves for the Catamounts.
The Friars next travel to nearby Boston to take on Northeastern in the Hockey East season series finale on Friday, Feb. 6 at 7:00 p.m. The teams split the first two games of the series with Providence winning the first game at Schneider Arena, 4-1, while Northeastern won the second game, 6-2, at Matthews Arena.
