QUEENS, N.Y. -
The women's soccer team fell to St. John's, 2-1, on Friday, Oct. 28 in Queens, N.Y. The Friars complete the regular-season schedule with a 11-6-2 overall and a 5-3-1 record in BIG EAST play. The Red Storm improve to 10-3-5 overall and 5-2-2 in the conference.
The Red Storm scored the first tally in the 15th minute from redshirt Junior Miranda Haraughty.
At the half, the St. John's held a slight advantage in shots (5-4). The Friars held a 3-0 edge in corner kicks. Senior goalkeeper Kristyn Shea (Piscataway, N.J.) recorded three saves for the Friars, while Diana Poulin collected one save.
In the 53rd minute Kayla Steeves (Needham, Mass.) notched her first career goal, when she a ripped a shot just under the cross bar, eluding the out-stretched glove of Poulin.
The Red Storm scored what proved to be the game-winning goal in the 72nd minute when Christina Bellero scored her third goal of the season.
After 90 minutes of play, the Friars held a 10-6 advantage in shots and a 3-1 edge in corner kicks. Shea finished the night with three saves, while Poulin made four stops.
The Friars will enter the BIG EAST Tournament as the No. 5 seed and will face No. 4 seed St. John's on Tuesday, Nov. 1 at 7:00 p.m. in Queens, N.Y.
