PROVIDENCE, R.I.- The Providence College women's volleyball team is set to host its final two matches of the season. The Friars will face off against Villanova on Nov. 18 at 7:00 p.m. before ending their season with senior day on Nov. 20 against Georgetown at 1:00 p.m. There will be live stats and live streams for both matches. SCOUTING PROVIDENCE: The Providence College women's volleyball has a record of 13-19 record, including a 1-15 record in the BIG EAST, on the season. The Friars are coming off of losses against Creighton on Nov. 11 and Nov. 12.
The Friars have employed a well balanced offensive attack all season. Kayla Fitzgerald (Redlands, Calif.) is the team leader in kills with 246 (2.22 k/s). Allison Impellizeri has the third most kills on the team with 233 (2.16 k/s) but leads the team in hitting percentage. Impellizeri's .298 hitting percentage is the 13th best percentage in the BIG EAST. Calya Veverka (Collegeville, Pa.), Megan Onyundo (Woodbridge, Va.) and Jenae Alderson (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) have all been important parts of the attack as well, recording 240 (2.26 k/s), 218 (2.37 k/s) and 194 (2.42 k/s), respectively.
Chicyia Clark (Huntington Beach, Calif.) has set the attack for the Friars all season, tallying 1039 assists (9.53 a/s) on the season. Clack's 9.53 assists per set is the eighth best in the BIG EAST. Clark is also eighth in the BIG EAST for service aces, tallying 31 with .28 service aces per set this season.
The Friar's defense has been the team's standout quality. As a team, Providence is fifth in the BIG EAST for both opponent hitting percentage (.206) and fourth in digs per set (15.12 d/s). The leader of the Friar's defense has been Michelle Cruz (Midland Park, N.J.). Cruz is third in the BIG EAST for digs per set with her 4.54 average. Impellizeri also has played a large role in the defense with her blocking abilities, totaling 103 blocks. Impellizeri's .95 blocks per set average is eighth best in the BIG EAST.
SCOUTING VILLANOVA: The Villanova Wildcats are 17-12 on the season, including an 8-8 record in the BIG EAST.
As a team, Villanova is ranked second in assists (12.90 a/s), third in kills (13.84 k/s) and fourth in hitting percentage (.244). Allie Loitz leads the team with 342 kills and is ranked fourth in the BIG EAST for kills per set with 3.72. Claire Crutchfield has also had a strong season for the Wildcats, tallying 310 kills (3.16 k/s) this season. Emma Decker has set the attack for Villanova, tallying 1078 assists. Decker is second in the BIG EAST with 11.11 assists per set.
Regan Lough and Loitz have played a large part of the Wildcat's defensive efforts. Lough has recorded 383 digs (3.91 d/s) and Loitz has tallied 240 digs (2.61 d/s) this season.
LAST MATCH AGAINST VILLANOVA: The Friars faced the Villanova Wildcats on Oct. 8 at Villanova. Providence lost the match three sets to none. Kayla Fitzgerald led the Friar attack with nine kills. Chicyia Clark set the attack with 24 assists. Michelle Cruz tallied 14 digs in the lost.
Claire Crutchfield tallied 12 kills while Allie Loitz recorded 12 digs for Vilanova in the win.
SCOUTING GEORGETOWN: The Georgetown Hoyas have a record of 6-23 on the season, including a 2-14 record in the BIG EAST.
The Villanova attack is being led by Alyssa Sinnette and Symone Speech. Sinnette leads the team with 340 kills (3.37 k/s) while Speech has tallied 313 kills (2.93 k/s). Paige McKnight has set the attack for the Hoyas all season. McKnight has tallied 1060 assists (9.81 a/s) this season.
Kenzzie Higareda has been the leader of the Hoya defense all season. Higareda averages 4.03 digs per set and has tallied a total of 435 digs all season.
LAST MATCH AGAINST GEORGETOWN: Providence faced Georgetown on Oct. 7 at Georgetown. Providence fell in four sets to the Hoyas. Megan Onyundo, Kayla Fitzgerald and Cayla Veverka had strong offensive matches, tallying 15, 12 and 10 kills, respectively. Fitzgerald recorded a double-double in the loss, recording 10 digs as well.
Michelle Cruz led the team in digs with 22. Kara Mason also had a strong match tallying 10 digs.
Chicyia Clark set the attack, recording 42 assists.
Symone Speech recorded 19 kills for Georgetown. Paige McKnight recorded 48 assists and 16 digs in the victory for Georgetown.
