SACO, ME. - The Providence College women's soccer team topped the University of Maine, 1-0, on Aug. 28 at Thorton Academy in Saco, Maine. The Friars improve their record to 1-2-1 on the season.
The Friars, led by goal scorer Kathryn Hiller (Dartmouth, Mass.), took the lead in the 38th minute of the match with a shot across the goalmouth. The goal marks Hiller's third of the season, as she has tallied six points on the season thus far. The assist was awarded to sophomore Casey Estey (Kensington, N.H.).
Providence totaled 11 shots over the course of the game, nine of which came in the first half. Senior goalkeeper Kristyn Shea recorded eight saves during the match, while the Black Bears' goalkeeper, Annalena Kriebisch, recorded three saves in the game. "The positive, we won today and it's always important to win on the road, especially against a team that was undefeated and scoring goals," Head Coach Sam Lopes said. "Every game there are things we can always improve upon and today was no different. We did do some good things, especially earning a shutout and scoring a good goal in the run of play. Regardless of the result, the most important thing is to keep learning, growing, and working hard." The Friars will be back in action on Thursday, Sept. 1 where they will host the Boston University Terriers at 7:00 p.m. at Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium. -GO FRIARS-
