Final Stats

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College men's soccer team notched its fourth straight victory with a 2-0 blanking of Georgia State on Sunday afternoon at Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium in game two of the R.I. Capital City Classic.

With the win, Providence improves to 4-2-0 while the Panthers even their record to 3-3-0. Colin Miller improved to 3-0-0 this season as he turned away two shots for the Friars. Yannic Horn did not register a save for Georgia State as he fell to 3-3-0 this season.

The Friars generated the game's first prime scoring chance off a corner kick as Brendan Constantine's (Glastonbury, Conn.) header just sailed over the crossbar in the 12th minute.

Providence continued to press the Panther cage in the 24th minute as Daniel Griffin (Weathersfield, Conn.) fed Braden Kline (Lancaster, Pa.) in the box, but the freshman's turnaround blast sailed over the goal.

Earning his third consecutive start in goal for the Friars, red shirt sophomore Colin Miller (Bel Air, Md.) turned away a Panther bid in the 26th minute as he stoned Georgia State's Salomon Lorenzo point blank.

The first half came to a close scoreless, with the Panthers holding a 6-4 advantage in shots and the Friars attempting five corner kicks to Georgia State's one.

Providence struck first just 1:26 into the second half as Griffin fired home a fed from Constantine at the top of the box for his third goal of the season and his second in as many games to put the Friars up 1-0.

Julian Gressel (Neustadt an der Aisch, Germany) gave the Friars some insurance with his fourth strike of the season in the 78th minute on an assist from Brendan Reardon (Nesconset, N.Y.). Gressel and Reardon combined on the give-and-go, with Gressel finishing it off with the outside of his foot into the cage past Yannic Horn.

The Panthers held a 12-7 advantage in shots, with corner kicks evened up at seven apiece.Providence and Brown were announced as Co-Tournament Champs. Both teams finished the weekend with the same amount of points and goal differentials. Providence's Griffin was named the Co-MVP along with Brown's Jack Hagstrom. Three other Friars were named to the All-Tournament Team: Colin Miller, Mark Jecewiz, and Julian Gressel.
