PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College volleyball team played its Senior Day match on Sunday, Nov. 5 with a match against the Marquette Golden Eagles. Providence was defeated by Marquette with a score of three sets to none.
SET ONE HIGHLIGHTS:
-Marquette took the first set with a score of 25-20.
-Sophomore Cayla Veverka (Collegeville, Pa.) led the Friars with four kills in set one.
-Freshman Allison Barber (Woodbury, Minn.) and senior Chicyia Clark (Huntington Beach, Calif.) tallied four digs each in set one.
-Barber added 10 assists as well.
SET TWO HIGHLIGHTS:
-The Golden Eagles won set two with a score of 25-10.
-Junior Megan Onyundo (Woodbridge, Va.) and Veverka each tallied two kills in set two.
-Barber recorded five digs in the set.
SET THREE HIGHLIGHTS:
-Marquette closed out the match by taking the set with a score of 25-19.
-Sophomore Addison Root (Wichita, Kan.) added three kills to lead Providence in the set.
-As a team, the Friars recorded 6 blocks and held Marquette to a .129 hitting percentage.
-Freshman McKenzie Lydon (Stuart, Fla.) led the defensive efforts with four digs.
MATCH HIGHS:
-Veverka and Root each recorded seven kills in the match.
-Barber led Providence in both assists (23) and digs (11).
-The team recorded seven blocks in the loss.
NEXT UP:
The Friars will finish up their schedule on the road. Providence next plays Butler University on Nov. 11 at 1:00 p.m. The Friars then travel to Xavier University to take on the Musketeers on Nov. 12 at 1:00 p.m.
