PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College Volleyball team hosted a midweek match against crosstown rival Brown on Tuesday, Sept. 12. The Friars won the match 3-0 to extend their win streak to 11 matches.
FIRST SET HIGHLIGHTS:
-The Friars were led offensively by four kill sets by both sophomore Addison Root (Wichita, Kan.) and sophomore Lindsey Schaible (Tampa, Fla.).
-Providence went on a 5-0 scoring run to break the set open and take a 17-12 lead.
Score: 25-19 Providence
SECOND SET HIGHLIGHTS:
- Providence found itself in an early hole as Brown started the second set with a 8-3 run. The Friars would fight back to take the set 25-21.
- Root exploded for eight kills in set two.
- Freshman Allison Barber (Woodbury, Minn.) tallied 14 assists and five digs in the set.
Score: 25-21 Providence
THIRD SET HIGHLIGHTS:
- Root tallied six kills in the final set.
- Senior Chicyia Clark (Huntington Beach, Calif.) recorded seven digs in the final set
Score: 25-19 Providence
Match Highs:
-The Friars had two athletes with double-digit kills as Root led the team with 18 kills and sophomore Jenae Alderson (Brookyln Park, Minn.) added 10.
-Barber, Clark, and freshman McKenzie Lydon (Stuart, Fla.) recorded 10 digs for the Friars.
-Providence outdid Brown in kills (47-29), assists (44-28) and digs (50-40).
Next Up:
The Friars travel to West Point, N.Y. for the Army West Point Tournament. Providence will face Akron, West Virginia, and West Point on Sept. 15-16.
