Providence Competes At Black Knight Invitational

WEST POINT, N.Y. - The Providence College Volleyball team competed at the Black Knight Invitational on Sept. 15-16. The Friars went 0-3 for the weekend, dropping matches against Akron, West Virginia, and Army. This was the last non-conference tournament Providence will compete in this season.
MATCH AGAINST AKRON NOTES:
-The Friars and Zips match went 4 sets. Providence took set two (25-22) while Akron took set 1 (25-23), set 3 (25-23), and set 4 (25-22).
-Allison Impellizeri (Seaford, N.Y.) led the Friars in kills with 15. Addison Root (Wichita, Kan.) also recorded double-digit kills with 11.
-Root tallied a double-double as she added 17 digs to go with her 11 kills. McKenzie Lydon (Stuart, Fla.) was also in double digits for digs with 15.
-Allison Barber (Woodbury, Minn.) recorded 48 assists in the loss.
MATCH AGAINST WEST VIRGINIA NOTES:
-For the second match in a row, the Friars went four sets. Providence claimed set two with a score of 25-23. The Mountaineers claimed sets 1 (25-11), 3 (25-18) and 4 (25-12).
-Providence had two athletes with double-digit kills. Root led the Friars with 15 while Megan Onyundo (Woodbridge, Va.) added 10.
-Barber tallied a double-double for Providence, leading the Friars in both assists (33) and digs (14).
MATCH AGAINST ARMY NOTES:
-The Black Knights defeated the Friars 3-0. The match scores were 25-19, 25-17 and 25-18 all in Army's favor.
-Jenae Alderson (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) led Providence with eight kills.
- Barber, Onyundo and Lydon each had seven digs.
AWARDS:
Sophomore Lindsey Schaible (Tampa, Fla.) was named to the Black Knights Invitational All-Tournament team. Over the course of the three-match tournament, Schaible recorded 22 kills and three blocks.
NEXT UP:
Providence will finish up its non-conference play against Rhode Island rival Bryant University on Tuesday, Sept. 16. The match is set to start at 7:00 p.m. at Bryant.
